Who we are
Our memoirs are written and composed by Jessica Rios, a prolific personal narrative writer since she was 5 years old. When a close friend’s parents passed away and she was still grieving, she told Jessica —
“I wish I would have written down more of their stories. Now they’re gone and I can’t go back.”
For Jessica, writing memoirs sparks a passion that traces back to childhood. Growing up in San Anselmo CA, she had a close bond with her grandparents. When her grandfather died, he left her his collection of pens to support her passion for writing. Imprinted by her family’s values, Jessica assumed all elderly people were respected by their families and the wider world.
Eventually, when she realized many seniors are actually treated quite poorly or even ignored, her heart broke and she wondered what she could do about it. After college, she served as coordinator of the Senior Companion Program, offering seniors relief from loneliness.
In 2015, Jessica decided to “be the change” she wished to see in the world by professionally honoring people in their later years with her lifelong art of writing.
Since then, she has served as a loving presence in conversation with elderly people, listening to their stories, laughing with them and witnessing their tears. Her goal is to leave them feeling loved and respected, with a genuine sense of assurance that they will be remembered long after they pass on.
Her current memoir project is focused on a place — the most historical property in the town of La Jolla, San Diego CA.
an Emotional Heirloom
A memoir connects a family to its history, or a community to its place. It preserves family lineage and an individual’s legacy, honorably acknowledging a property or geography that is especially meaningful.
Bridging the gap between generations, memoirs help readers feel close to ancestors they have never met and carry family and place-based narratives into the future.
Our two heirloom offerings focus on a person’s life (the GALAXY memoir) or a place of significance (the COSMOS memoir). Find details on these offerings here.
Every time Jessica sits with a senior to have a conversation for their memoir, she brings the spirit of her grandparents. Here she is at her 5th birthday party in Gerstle Park, with her Grandma Angelina (1980) and as a baby with Grandpa Juan (1975).
“Working with Jessica for my mother’s memoir was positive and deeply meaningful for our family. It made the next generations proud, and helped them feel like they’re part of something special. Jessica led the project gracefully and she had a fantastic approach to her memoir process.”
